______________________
The husband and wife team at Shinn are seriously engaged in a quest for cleaner, healthier forms of farming. They work their 20 acres of vines both organically and sustainably, and, over the last several years, they’ve committed to trials with the Rodale Institue, the USDA, The Soil Food Web and Cornell University – all funded with a SARE (Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education) grant, which has helped them improve their vineyard management. The couple crafts their wines as fastidiously as they care for their land, and it shows.

2010 Shinn Estate Coalescence – North Fork Long Island, NY- $14
True to its name, the Coalescence brings together hand-harvested Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot Blanc and Riesling in a refreshing, versatile blend. Try this bright, crisp wine with Camembert, cole slaw or a dozen Malpeque oysters.
NV Shinn Estate Red – North Fork of Long Island, NY – $12.50
A good everyday blend of 52% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Franc and 22% Syrah that’s chock full of bright North Fork fruit. Fresh red cherry flavors are accented by hints of graphite and oak, just to keep things interesting. This is a smooth, soft, sipping wine.
2008 Shinn Estate Merlot – North Fork of Long Island, NY – $21
Shinn’s signature Merlot has enticing aromas of sweet spices and toasted herbs, and you’ll taste classic Merlot flavors of black cherry, chocolate, coffee and vanilla. This is definitely an age-worthy wine, but it’s ready to drink now. Right now.
2008 Shinn Estate Wild Boar Doe – North Fork of Long Island, NY – $25
We’d like to say the people at Shinn are getting a little reckless with the worldplay here, but we can’t really throw stones…This is a Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon that’s spicy and aromatic, with black pepper and blackberry flavors. Try it with stews, roasted meats, and full-flavored cheeses.
2010 Shinn Estate Wickham’s Pear Cider – North Fork of Long Island, NY – $14
A blend of Gorham, Comice, and Bosc pears, fermented on the skins in neutral French oak. Distinctly pear-flavored and slightly sweet, it’s good on its own as an aperitif or paired with savory desserts.
