Kanon Organic Vodka – Sweden (750ml) – $25

10% OFF DURING THE TASTING
You can say a lot of things about this vodka (and the people at Kanon do!). It’s apparently chock full of history, good intentions and very little else. Really, it’s all heart. See, the distillation process produces roughly three different parts, known as heads, tails and hearts. The heads and tails usually contain most of the impurities – the gristle, if you will. The heart is the filet mignon. Unlike most other premuim vodkas, which make use of the heads and tails after running them through multiple distillations, Kanon just chucks ‘em (well, actually they’re turned into biogas and sent off to power public transportion). The pure hearts are then mixed with fresh water and bottled – that’s it. To make it even warmer and fuzzier, Kanon uses 100% organic wheat. That and everything else that goes into making this vodka comes from within a three-mile radius of the old Gripsholm Distillery, which back in 1580 made booze for the locals. And yes, you guessed it, those villagers made cannons.

Come taste what everybody is missing…

15% off all wines featured at the tasting

2009 Mittnacht Freres Terre d’Etoiles Pinot Blanc – Alsace, France – $18

Christophe Mittnacht farms organically and biodynamically, and his wines display beautiful character, personality and depth. We love his Riesling and can’t wait to pop the cork on his Pinot Blanc.

2010 Domaine des Lises ‘Equinoxe’ Crozes-Hermitage – Northern Rhone, France – $22

Oh the pleasures of the Northern Rhone! This 100%  Syrah is dense, but surprisingly soft and accessible for its young age. Ripe black fruits burst forth on the the nose and palate with underpinnings of smoke and black olive. Enjoy with smoked meats or hard mild cheeses.

2009 Domaine Lafond Roc-Epine Lirac – Rhone Valley, France – $20

Domaine Lafond’s beautifully made wines are among the finest values in the Southern Rhone. This Lirac is concentrated, meaty, and well-structured. A wine chock full of the soul-warming aromas and flavors of the Southern Rhone including black raspberries, cherries, licorice, and wild herbs.

2008 Green & Red ‘Chiles Canyon’ Zinfandel – Napa, California- $26

Green & Red Vineyard, named for its red iron soils veined with green serpentine, is located in the steep hills on the east side of Napa Valley. Grape-growing here began in 1972 on ground originally planted with vineyards in 1890. This particular Zin is a blend of fruit from three mountain vineyards. It has dark Cherry and Rasperry fruit tinged with clove and a little sage. An impressively focused, balanced and delicious Zinfandel, this is the bottle that first turned Josh onto wine!
