This Week at Gnarly!

Our Gnarly Summer Sale Starts NOW!
Tuesday, August 21st – Monday, September 3rd

It’s time! That’s right, sweaty summer sippers – the moment has come for our 2012 End-of-Summer 30/30 sale-a-ganza! That’s 30 wines now at a crazy-hot 30% off. See, what’s happened is Brian has gone away and he’s left his minions here to play. Silly Brian! What else will we do but pour out our love of wine by giving you 30% off some of our favorite reds, whites, rosés, and sparklers.
What happens when one runs out, you ask? Pee-shaw – we’ll just add another to replace it. Because we’re super crazy generous like that! Click here to see what goodies we have in store, or simply come on in and look for bottles with the orange sale stickers. See how easy we make it for you?
But that’s not it!!! *We’re also offering an extra 5% off on our already discounted multi-bottle packs (so, during the sale, 6+ bottles gets ya 10% off; 12 slices off 15%; and 24 gets you down 20%).
[*NOTE: Double discounts are not applicable; that is to say, you can't mix the 30/30 sale with the extra 5% off sale - because then Brian will come back and fire us all. And you really don't want that on your conscience, do you?]

Great Gobs of Gruner! It’s an Austrian Sippin’ Smackdown!
Thursday, August 23rd, 6-9pm

Holy Alpine acidity! These wines have got that kind of sit-up-straight and smack your Austrian grandma zippiness that we simply can’t resist. And what better invigorator to seize these last days of summer with wild abandon? Nothing! Nothing we tell you!

2010 Setzer Gruner Veltliner – Weinviertel, Austria – $12
Classically Gruner and refreshing on both your palate and your wallet, this Gruner is all sortsa stone fruit on the nose and in your mouth, with great, stoney minerality and zesty acidity.  Poach yourself some halibut in olive oil and serve with chilled summer asparagus with buttery lemon sauce.
2011 H.u.M. Hofer Gruner Veltliner (1ltr)- Niederosterreich, Austria – $14
This organic Gruner packs exceptionally ripe fruit and a refreshing finish. Pop the crown cap on this with some grilled pork or take along to a picnic with cold cuts and creamy cheese.
2011 Berger Gruner Veltliner – Niederosterreich, Austria (1Ltr) – $15
Gruner Veltliner is the most widely planted grape in Austria and famously easy to pair. This one is packed with so much green apple and honeysuckle flavor, you’ll be grateful for the liter size – especially with some shrimp risotto.
2010 Berger Zweigelt – Niederosterreich, Austria (1Ltr) – $16
From a practicing organic producer, this medium-bodied, juicy Zweigelt has a plump raisin and prune nose, a touch of CO2, and soft tannins. Delicious served with a slight chill alongside grilled pork sausage.
15% off featured wines during the tasting!

Gnarly Vines Cocktail of the Week: The Allegrapey
You’ve got to kind of feel sorry for the poor Concord grape, its fate forever tethered to jars of Welch’s jelly. But must baby always be put in a corner? No sir! No she must not! Whip up Amy Z.’s recipe for some Concord grape syrup, nab a bottle of Redemption (or your favorite) bourbon, add little vermouth, and voila – the Allegrapey!
The Allegrapey
1.5 oz. Redemption High-Rye Bourbon
1 oz. dry vermouth
.5 oz. Concord grape syrup
.25 oz lemon juice
1 lemon twist

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add in first four ingredients and shake well. Strain into a cocktail or coup glass and garnish with the lemon twist. Enjoy!
Concord Grape Syrup
1 pint Conford grapes
.25 cup sugar
Rinse grapes. Place in a medium-sized sauce pot. Evenly pour in sugar. Heat over medium-low flame, stirring occasionally, until skins begin to burst and juice is released, about 10 minutes. Allow to cool thoroughly. Store in air-tight container for up to 1 week.

Redemption High-Rye Boubon – Indiana (750ml) – $28
Redemption High-Rye Bourbon includes 38% rye in the mash bill. This unusual recipe produces a strong and spicy bourbon, but its 60% corn content provides a nice, balancing sweetness.
Noilly Prat Dry Vermouth – France (375ml) – $7.50
Dry, clean, and classic, Noilly P is the one of the best mixin’ vermouths around.
